What were they thinking. - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Good story, terrible camera work. Could notfocus on anything since the camera was moving constantly. Too bad, it could'have been good.

Bring dramamine and a barf bag - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

The story and acting was good, but I just can't give a good grade to a movie that both my wife and I got literally sick from watching. The camera work made this otherwise very good movie into a travesty. About 1/2 way through I noticed that I was feeling nauseous - but I didn't know why until my wife leaned over and said "the way the camera is moving is making me sick." I realized then why I was also sick. My wife had to leave 3/4 of the way through and was ill for the rest of the evening. I am not prone to motion sickness - I am fine on the ocean, on long trips, etc., but this movie did it for me. If you are prone to motion sickness and insist on still seeing this movie, you better take dramamine, and be prepared to leave early or leave ill. I will never watch another movie by this director again, no matter what the movie is, unless he swears off this visual idiocy.

Amateur looking camera work destroys illusion - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

I couldn't get lost in this movie with all the hand-held amateur camera work. With the camera bobbing up and down you know it is a bunch of actors being followed by a camera...liked the story and acting but found both the hand held camera scenes and the constant repetitive flashbacks just wasted film. I think the one water scene used in Jason's early training was repeated 9 or 10 times...okay Mr. Director I get the picture now move the story on..and I understand blurring all these scenes to make it seem like a distant memory but come on you are trying to be a little to creative...I felt like I was watching film work by some beginning high school film class...not what I expected

Ulitmately unwatchable! - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Here's a perfect example of a perfectly good movie destroyed by someone who can't hold a camera still for 2 seconds! It's like trying to watch a movie on an airplane during constant turbulence. When will this excuse for a visual style go away? Sad. Just sad. This plot and actors deserved better.

What a spythriller should be!!! - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

All you crybabies whining about shaky cameras-- get over it! The gut wrenching chase scenes and the heart stopping fight sequences are enhanced by this special effect. We finally have the final piece of the puzzle and this last film ties them all together. Jason is one baadd asss and slicker than snot on a doorknob. The movie is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. That's what a movie should do-and this one delivers!!!

Someone should pay dearly for making this pile. - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

The worst job of directing I can remember. Half of the movie is extreme closeups of lifeless faces. They could have held up 8X10 glossies of the actors and gotten the same results, perhaps better. The other half consists of blurry, unwatchable action scenes that substitute frenzy for logic (in the first half of the final chase through New York streets, the streets are snowy and the cars filthy. In the second part, streets are clear and the same cars clean.) A woman behind me was holding her hands over her eyes during these pointless blurs, making the smartest person in the theater. The plot is silly. Boring, robotic performances are carefully coaxed from good actors. I want my money back, at least minimum wage for time wasted, and several million for emotional distress.

Sit in the back of the theater and take dramamine! - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Please read this review and save your lunch. Loved the first 2, what happened here. The short end of it is; WAIT FOR THE DVD. Worth seeing but you will probably get sick with the shakkkkkkeeeee camera work. Even calm talking parts are so shaky that you need to stair off to the side to catch you bearings. The fight scene and the car scene are so shaky you have no idea what is going on while they are happening. The director saved a lot of money in production! He used no CGI and couldn't afford a steady cam.

Big bourne fan. big disappointed. - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Movie fans. This was a mess. Greengrass uses a shaking handheld camera for the ENTIRE film. Not for effect mind you. It's used here to REPLACE the action and suspense we've come to expect in this fine series. Uninspired, disjointed movie making. Seriously, it TOTALLY misses the mark.

Good film bad director - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

This is one of the best ones but the camera moves too much even on dialogue scenes, the action scenes, you have to look closely, but aside from the director the movie was good but i wouldnt pay to see it again

Bourne insanity - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Bourne is a man in crisis. He can't remember his past. He is uncertain about his future. He needs to know the truth. He also has magic powers that would put Spiderman and Superman to shame. He leaps through the air, crashes through windows, drives off 10 story buildings, piles cars up like metal burritos, defies gravity and then miraculously walks away with only a limp. The holes in logic of this film defy description. We have a "Covert Op" of the CIA that apparently has the capability to control every camera, hear every cell phone, read every floor plan of every building ever made anywhere on the planet at any time...and yet.. Jason Bourne can walk right into their headquarters, steal top secret documents and then dematerialize like Frodo with a clocking device, without anyone even looking up from their laptop. Oh, did I mention that Bourne can travel at the speed of light? He can apparently move from country to country like most of us move from the refrigerator to the kitchen table. Not that he would ever need either one, because apparently he doesn't need to eat or drink. Anything. Ever. Some have tried to suggest that Bourne has a moral center. It's this "deep moral conscience" that forbids him from doing harm to anyone. Not anymore. He's had enough of that killing stuff. Really? He may feel bad about killing a fellow assassin but he has no qualms about driving a police car into oncoming traffic at 100 miles an hour. There are people in those cars. People with children, and babies in car seats, and grandmothers, and defenseless animals. The film is so worried about Bourne uncovering a plot by the "evil CIA" to kill 7 or 8 unsuspecting "US Citizens" that it forgets to notice that Jason is using a police car like a missile in rush hour traffic, putting hundreds of lives at risk. Not to mention thousands of dollars in increased insurance rates. If you ask me, if he wants to fight injustice, he can start there. This is just one more blurry, shakey-handy-cam attempt by Hollywood to promote their goofy "left wing conspiracy" mumbo-jumbo nonsense. My guess is that Bourne's next movie will have him out there combating global climate change. We'll just call it "Global Bourne-ing" and be done with it.

Vertigo... - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

How very unfortunate for this Bourne series fan. I thought I was watching a 1990's MTV video. 3/4 of the way throught he movie, I felt myself experiencing vertigo and had a headache for 2 hrs. afterwards. This was a cinematic/directorial failure, in my opinion. If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about. I love everything about the Bourne story. Love "Identity" and "Supremacy". Big Matt Damon fan. Love intriue/espionage. etc. etc. But this constant, excessive movement of the camera and constant quick changing of scene's is literally nauseous. Also, story is getting tired... my 2 cents

Will someone buy paul greegrass a tripod. please! - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

If only I could have concentrated on the movie without the constant distraction of the 8th grade handheld camera work. The second film had the notion - a hand held camera used by a cinematographer on jolt, 10 cups of coffee and speed - make for an exciting movie. This was woorse. For me, I felt like I was trying to watch a good story, with talented support from a Yugo going 80 mph over one foot speed bumps. Too bad.

I am so dizzy. - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

i wonder if pot head greengrass had to attend some directors school to learn how to shake a camera so that the audience can't see anything...the camera moves throughout the film. worst filming then blair witch project. some one should tell greengrass that shaking a camera doesn't make the film more realistic....we know the camera guy is filming the scenes and he is not an interactive 3rd person character...nothing significant in the movie...stretch of part 1 and 2. the first part was an awesome film with nice direction and different director who didn't shake the camera...which is why the movie became so popular and greengrass ruined it all in part 2 and 3. i don't think greengrass will land a decent job again even though the movie is getting a good rating (thanks to part 1)....people know he fuked it up.

Unbearably bad movie making - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Tried to watch Bourne Friday nite but was just unable to do it. The camera work is not just horribly bad, that would be too kind. The ENTIRE movie is shot as if an 11 year old child was given the camera and asked to "jiggle it a whole lot" perhaps to create the illusion of action. It never, never, stops jiggling. It looks at times, too, as if he was told to sneak up at times & try to peek between people's arms - but don't worry if half the lens is covered by their arm. Chase scenes are incomprehensibly blurry, maddeningly incoherent, annoyingly dijointed, you name it. There is NOTHING good about the camera work here. And it unequivically ruins the entire movie. There could be a good movie in there somewhere. I just couldn't watch it.

Too bad - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

this movie had the potencial to be the best of the series, the cast and locations were great, the story perfectly followed the first 2 movies and the action sequence's could have been great. the problem is the shacky out of focus camera and the chopy editing make the movie almost unwatchable.too bad.

Another rogue group - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

the cia has so many rogue groups in hollywierd films that by now the entire population of the usa is guilty. I'm begging now....... could hollywierd PLEASE find a different villain!!!! If it has to been some governmental agency could it maybe be another government's? surely the British or French let alone the Egyptian government must have done something wrong. And does it always have to be a bad old white guy in a suit that we have to hate? Per formula the hero is a heroine.Waspy though. How did that get through? The person holding the camera must have taken lessons the day prior to filming this.Otherwise, that was one hell of an earthquake. If you don't mind a couple of hours of shaking action by a bionic hero who can outsmart, out box, out think an entire army with every electronic device unknown to mankind but can't even come up with his own name you will love this.otherwise, stay home and stare at the wall which i would have liked better. Unfortunately,I had a free ticket that I wasted on this piece of drek so i could hardly ask for a refund.

Too shaky..too dizzy, u ruin the movie, mrdirector - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

I watched 1st BOURNE movie on DVD at least 3 times. It was awsome. I watched 2nd Bourne movie in the theater, and never want to see it again mainly b/c of that intentionally shaky visual effect, which give me BIG headache, and I could not see clearly to enjoy the fighting scences (though I practice Karate and gone thru real fights every week for more than 3 years, & really know what the good, & close-to-real fighting scenes are in the movies). Not too many comments about it at that time. I thought it was just me. We should say some thing at that time & the Director should learn about it.. to NOT OVERUSE it again on this 3rd Bourne movie, and we would have enjoy it greatly. ALL I SAY NOW IS, MR. DIRECTOR, STOP IT OR WE STOP SEEING YOUR MOVIE.

Jason bourne at its best - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

I just got back from the midnight preview, and all i can say is "wow". It was great...I was literally out on my seat the whole time because so many clues are revealed and the time waited for this movie (3 years) was worth it. Hopefully, the next one would be even better. Nevertheless, there is one thing that really bothered me which prob will gave u the same headaches I got, BUT THSOE DAMN SHAKY CAMERAS HAVE TO GO...

Shaky camera..3 second editing - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Walked out because it is shot in shaky camera with sceens that last 1 to 3 seconds, you know the method that requires no talent or direction...and is just plain annoying.

Outstanding - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

WOW! That movie was totally crazy! You aint gonna beleive this one! This is definately the BEST movie of the year! And it's going to be a long year awaitin' for the next one! I'm so excited and pumped right now just because of this movie. They hit the nail on the head with this one! GREAT JOB!

Action photography the worst ever - almost left - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

I have been a movie fan for 50 years but the action photography in Bourne Ultimatum is really bad. A lot of it is hand-held cameras with running or falling (who can tell?). Most of the time you couldn't tell what was happening. A couple of people walked out. I almost did. At the end, some people applauded ... but it was probably because the visual suffering was over. I think you will like it more as a rental than the big screen. Save your money for now. PS .. I loved the other Bourne Movies.

Suggest you check out both ends of the spectrum! - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

I think readers need be aware there are a lot of people who work on movie sets who write in reviews to up the odds so their movies will do well in the box office, and if you really want a well-rounded review of a movie, you should view the most positive and most negative to obtain an honest assessment. Especially, to avoid becoming just another part of the herd of cattle being roped in for their high profits. The producers/directors of this movie were genius to bring a $70 million weekend gross for a movie with an extremely dull storyline, and action sequences only the clairvoyant could make out. I can only assess that it could be appreciated most by those who play a lot of video-games, as the real challenge isn't understanding this movie, but rather trying to identify what you are seeing. About 70 percent of the movie is action-chase scenes that are a hodge podge of fast camera shots that appear to be created from a cameraman running or jumping while filming and perhaps the editors thought it might be fun to cut the film up every five slides and put them back together in a different order. Bourne apparently, for a real twist, drives a car off the top of a parking garage, but you don't really know what happened until he gets out of it at the bottom. Since you don't realize what it is you are seeing, it doesn't matter if they _uck it up or not because you can't tell what is going on anyway. Way to cut down costs on retakes!!! Congrats to Matt! at least the few lines you had, were believeable....and what a waste of Joan Allen! What a gem. Check her out in "Off the Map" or "Upside of Anger"! But this was definitely the last "Bourne" movie I'm checking out.

Why an "f" rating? - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

How to begin? Let's see. How's this. I've watched many movies that I disliked because the plot was poor. Or maybe the acting was poor. Or maybe the set was low budget. But I can't say any of that for this movie. Why not you ask? Because the cinematography was so ridiculusly poor, that I just couldn't tell if this movie had a plot or not. I have no idea if the acting was good or bad. No idea about the sets. What I do know is this. I watched only 1 hour of this 1 hour and 51 minute movie and then left the theater. And I wasn't the first to go. Why was that? What about the cinematography was so "bad" that I and others left the theater? To give the audience a feel for "high energy" and to emphasize that this movie was an "action" movie the director decided to make the cameras continuously move around. The cameras danced around. They bounced around. They swept around. They zoomed in and zoomed out. They panned, they spun, they even appeared to go in little circles. Not for one moment did they just record a scene. The effect was nauseating. And that's being kind. And it was totally distracting from the movie. It was impossible to follow the plot. I have no idea what the storyline was because all I could think about was how the camera work turned what could have been an exciting movie into rubbish. This miserable sorry excuse of a film was destroyed by the director who thought the audience needed this ridiculus special effect to feel more excited. So, if you want to pay $10 and sit for 111 minutes and watch a totally annoying, impossible to follow, horrible movie while sick to your stomach, then by all means, buy yourself a ticket at your local theater. And bring a barf bag.

Photography disaster - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

The Bourne Ultimatum was an awesome movie if I were to grade it on the acting and the story line. The photography on the other hand was HORRID! Every rule of good photography was broken repeatedly. By the time I left the moviehouse, I felt like I'd been on a roller coaster -- almost motion sick. The camera was only still when the scenes turned to the project boss in the computer control room. Everywhere else, the camera moved along with the actors and was so close most of the time, that the viewer could barely tell what was going on. HORRID photgraphy! Great actors and story line. We're ready for part IV, as long as the photgrapher is not the same one.

Another great bourne movie - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Get ready for tons of action and outstanding fight sequences. Basically, Jason Bourne is hunted by the people who made him a legendary assassin. What's great about this movie is that if you haven't seen the Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy, that's okay. This is one heck of a thrill ride. Definitely check it out!

Probably the best movie of the summer - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

This is fine film-making from top down. The Direction keeps the action flowing, the story is clean flows well, the acting is top-notch. The camerawork is frenetic to keep up with the pace (long live handhelds!) and truly the Bourne franchise has come into its own, alongside Bond...but Bourne is grittier, more real, and doesn't rely on gadgets and big explosions to make even intimate moments tense and exciting. This is probably the best movie of the summer so far. A few wasted visual opportunities, but none-the-less thrilling. Seen in a packed house, the crowd was cheering along with hearty applause at the finish.

What a dog!!!! - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

The director of this movie should have to pay people to go see it. He took a decent story, good set locations, and what could have been incredible views and cinematography and turned it into a high budget Blair Witch Project. From the opening scene all the way to the final 2 minutes it was filmed like a home movie...except I attempt to hold the camcorder with less jerky motions. I literally left the theater with a headache and slightly queasy from the endless motion of the handheld cameras. There were not 5 minutes in the entire movie that were not filmed by handheld cams. The action scenes were filmed by a handheld camera chasing the actors through the scenes and from such a horrible perspective that you were so distracted by the annoying camera movement that you lost track of what was supposed to be interesting. The close up fight scenes were a un-watch able blur of fuzzy close-ups and indecipherable movements and actions. It really is a shame because the story, locations and acting were all worthy of a summer popcorn action movie, but left me feeling robbed and ill when I left the theater. If this movie makes any money after the opening weekend, it just proves the American public will gorge on anything set before it out of the sewer!

Best movie i've seen this year - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

i went to a midnight showing of this movie and it was definitely more than worth staying up late for. i own the other two bourne movies and this one doesn't disappoint. it picks up moments from where the previous movie ends and is instantly thrilling and barely slows down to let me catch my breath. the action and suspense had me on the edge of my seat the entire movie and the chase scene was phenomenal. something that really stands out in my mind for this trilogy is that most of it seems reasonably realistic. i would reccomend this movie to an audience of all ages although kids wouldnt really beable to keep up or stay interested. one other important thing is that this being the third movie it relies heavily on the story from the other movies, as it should, so i would reccomend seeing the other two first if you want to understand everything beginning to end.

Paul greengrass needs a different career! - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Paul Greengrass needs a different career because he fails MISERABLY as a director. The camera work in this film is simply atrocious. I could not tell what was going on about 80% of the time. I am sure it was a great story with great acting and action but who the hell could tell what was happening with the shaky camera. Paul Greengrass is a joke and I have to go vomit now....the seasickness will not go away!

Last one i will see - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

I swore that I would not pay for another "shaky camera" Bourne movie....I failed but I won't get suckered again. Hold the stinking camera still so we can focus on what is happening on the screen. Mr. Damon, why don't you step up and say something?

Disrespectful directorship - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

WARNING: Most people won't like this valid and truthful review. There are several reasons to go see a movie. Primary reasons are to hand over money to see a good story. Please emphasize: money, see and story. This piece will make money, but it wholly misses on the second part and barely functions on the last part. Most movie reviewers have written something like, "there is funny camera work, but you will like it." For me, a movie is for the most part visual story telling. Hence, these "critical reviewers" are telling you to endure the visual mess and try to enjoy the story. Sorry, in an age where steady cam is available to just about anyone, it seems ridiculous to have to face such disrespect a director has for his audience to have to endure such moronic childishness. If I want to ignore the reason for going to "see" a movie in the first place and concentrate on a story, I'll buy a book and read it. I'll conjure up my own visual images. Since the "story" in this piece has little or nothing to do with the book of the same name (and that's about all it has similar) there's not much to enjoy. The St. Vitas Dance school of direction and cinematography has again messed up what might have been a mediocre and maybe enjoyable movie going experience; instead of "seeing" a good "story," I complained to the management and got my money back.

Bourne beats the third movie blues. - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Without giving to much away, The Third Bourne movie follows along with the First two movies, Taking place right after the Second with him being chased down by the Moscow police, (Yes I know it really ended with him in New York Hold that thought) Flash back comes with the pain of the gun shot to his Left shoulder and Off he goes on another Ass Kicking, Car chasing, roof jumping, Fist fights in a small bathroom, and a Great fight scene to show what you can do with a heavy book. Now instead of U.S. agents in League with the Reds, It's a C.I.A. head that thinks Bourne might sell off his knowledge of the inner working's of Training to the highest bidder and he must be taken down before he Tells "freedom Fighters" or CNN about what they are really up to, While coming almost full Circle this time around with alot of the cast from the past movies being brought in to this one in some shape or form, Not much all that bad to say about this film except the "Oh did not see that one coming With Niki ordeal" But very enjoyable over all.

Greengrass does it again - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Greengrass takes a great movie and makes it unwatchable. My 90 year old grandma shakes less than the cameras do in this one. Greengrass needs to go back to film school and figure out how to hold a camera still. This isn't a style he has mastered, it is a way to screw up what is otherwise a great movie. Get a clue!

After this, can't wait for another one... - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Honestly, it proved to be much more than expectations. The best thing about this movie is, this probably is the only "threequal" ever, that makes you wanting for more. Even, "The Godfather" couldn't do that. 'Bourne Ultimatum' does not give you even 1 second to think about anything else in the world, while you are in the theater. I swear to God, it's that good. This movie grips your mind so badly, that you'll forget about the popcorn bag in your lap. It happened to me.. :)

The director's shaking eye syndrome - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

The Bourne Identity was outstanding. The Bourne Supremecy would have been a great film if the camera remained in focus during the film, but instead it made the movie an audio file only because viewers could not figure out what the heck was going on by watching it! I don't know who the genius was that decided to shake the camera during the filming process, but I guess they were not aware that the human eye is actually able to focus while the body moves. They didn't even hold still for dialogue scenes! But lessons were never learned and they did it again with The Bourne Ultimatum. It could have been a great action movie with well choreographed stunts and an actually interesting dialogue, but yet again the camera constantly shakes during the film, making it a really long blur. So if you want a headache and don't really care about actually seeing the film, go see Ultimatum. If you don't enjoy hurting your eyes, save yourself $9 and stay home and do something else, anything else.

Great movie if you can tell whats going on. - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

The film's cinematic style and visual effects, would have been great, if they could hold the camera still so you could see all the action . Filmed in close up..this was very distorted and anoying. The story and acting were excellent.

An honest to goodness review for this movie - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

OVERALL You'll be gripping your soda so tight it'll leak. Superlethal rogue agent Jason Bourne is back with style in this hyperaction (in a good way) installment in the series. It really is the best one of the trilogy, it's VERY action packed. The best scene from the entire trilogy comes in the form of a foot chase through Morocco, and in my humble opinion, the second best scene comes in the car chase at the end. STORY If you loved the first, felt so-so about the second, this third film's gonna charm you. This time it's personal. Jason Bourne is really, really angry at the agency that took his identity, killed his girlfriend, and keeps trying to assasinate him. So he sets his sights on eliminating them at their source: The HQ where they call their shots from. They've cast a new guy at the agency (David Strathairn) to replace the one that shot himself in the last one, and he's incredibly good, great chemistry with Damon. CAMERA AND SCORE The camera work is great, especially the car chase scene at the end, they do some stuff you've never seen before. However, I do get tired of the shaky camera thing, it can be nauseating after awhile, it looks like they just mounted a camera to the head of a seal and turned it loose. The score is loud and moving.

Great movie! best one of the 3 - The Bourne Ultimatum Reviews

Went to see a sneak peek and it was awesome. I liked it better than the first two. I thought the fighting scenes were great. My friend who had never seen the first two bournes loved this movie. Go see this movie, you won't regret it! They did a good job on this final bourne film. (for those who don't already know... this is a trilogy... there are 3 bourne books, and this is the last movie.)
